Secret Life

After watching the summer season premiere of Secret Life, there were several things that were going through my head. Having had a conversation the previous night before, there was specifically one topic that was on my mind: the victimization of young girls through things that happen in the media.

I tweeted:

Part of me is curious as to what direction Secret Life is heading in, but the other part of me feels like despite the messages about teens not having sex, the message it’s okay is still there. It seems like we’re raising a country of underage girls who are going to whore themselves around because of the message in this show. I don’t think sex should be encouraged to a young audience. Or abortions. Or pregnancies. They are making the topics more aware, but there still is the portrayal that it’s perfectly okay. Someone tell me I’m not partially right…

After posting my tweet on Twitter, another conversation sprawled. This one was about how, yes, there is a difference between entertainment in reality. The show may seem to encourage loose morals, and during my conversation we related this back to the girl/girl kiss on the MTV Movie Awards.

I could go into more detail, however, I have more things that are occupying my mind and I am rather tired.
