ONE YEAR AGO:
His booming voice, his blue shirt and khaki pants, his bead. Whether or not people no who he was - everyone knew Billy Mays. He was commonly known as “The OxiClean Guy” or maybe some knew him as the guy shouting on the television, but you still knew his face.
Discover’s PitchMen took a look behind the world of informercials, bringing this face and voice into our homes even more than it already was. Everyone assumes that pitchmen just pitch products and make easy money. However, that isn’t the case at all. Billy never pitched a product he didn’t believe in. Everything was criticized and tested, retested, and observed before it ever became produced and aired on your television, before you ever saw this product in a store close to home.
I never met Billy, but I have met numerous people because of him. Because of Billy, my life has more entertainment. Social networking sites, primarily Twitter, have become “fun,” and the people I’ve met who are also in love with PitchMen and Billy are some of my favorite people. Our conversations are bizarre, our jokes are unique, but we all share a common bond and it is all because of one person.
So R.I.P. Billy D. Mays Jr. You are missed, but you are not forgotten. Here’s to you.
LONG LIVE BILLY MAYS.
